As the name suggests, the band doesn’t want to limit itself in terms of genre. birds of unknown outlines the freedom in musical creation. Their common goal is to find their expression, to tell their story. They draw inspiration for their creation from jazz, avant-garde, ethno and soul music.
There are three so-called birds, the vocalist Patricija Škof, saxophonist Tibor Pernarčič and guitarist Tilen Beigot, all coming from Slovenia. birds of unknown were formed in the beginning of 2020 when Tibor joined the initial duo of Patricija and Tilen, which has been active since 2018. The new formed trio gave a debut performance on May 2020 at the radio show called Prva Vrsta, which is a part of the program of the Slovenian National Radio (RTVSlovenia). Their single, which they released in June 2020, was part of the EP compilation called Stereoisolation, which was a project of the festival Jazz ma’mlade during the pandemic. They performed at the numerous festivals such as Jazz Festival Ljubljana, KickJazz Festival (Porgy&BessVienna), JazzWerkstatt Graz, Jazzinty, Jazz ma’mlade, Zvončki in trobentice (Cankarjev dom), Imago, Letni Oder Ruše, Festival LENT, RokovoPoletje, Artkamp, etc. They were one of the 6 finalists of Klubski Maraton (touring programin Slovenia) of Radio Študent.
They were chosen as Slovenian representative artists for the Footprints Europe project in 2022, which will help them develop their career internationally and will tour in Austria and other parts of Europe in 2023.
They released their debut albumGently sailing on 3rd of December 2022
