MMB 2021 is on the way!

The 6th edition of Mastering The Music Business conference and showcase festival, the biggest international professional event organised in Romania for the music industry, will go on in 2021. In a hybrid format, on and offline, #MMB6 will take place between August 31 and September 2, 2021, at Hotel Caro and Club Expirat. For 3 days, Bucharest will become the focal point of the European music business, the place where musicians and music business professionals from around the world will share ideas, information, good practices and discuss about the future.

Anca Lupeș, MMB founder, stated that even if 2020 was an extremely difficult year and everything was set to make us give up (our spring event was cancelled one week before starting), we didn’t. After the online edition we put up in July, we realised how important it is to go on, to believe in our passion and most of all we saw how important it is for the musicians community, for the producers, promoters and the whole industry to have a place to gather and discuss what is to be done and how can we help each other. It helped us recharge our batteries so that in 2021 we will have a hybrid edition – part online and part offline, to be sure we will be able to comply with any regulations will be in place by that time and in the same time to continue to fulfill our purpose of supporting the local industry to thrive.”

Mastering the Music Business 2021 will gather many local and international speakers from the music industry and connected domains, to present new ideas and technologies, and share success stories. Among the first confirmed names are: Dylan Berry (SUA), program manager @SoundCloud Radio but also a renowned music producer who wrote music for TV channels such as History and National Geographic and TV shows such as American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, Anurag Tagat (IND), journalist @Rolling Stone India, Sarah-Jane Nicholson (ZA), Talent Manager with SJN Agency well known for her success in connecting artists from Africa with the global industry, Thea Lillepalu (EE), a music producer manager (many of them Grammy award winners) and NOËP – one of the most successful artists in Estonia, the Romanian artist Adrian Despot and Edy Chereji (RO), one of the creators of UNTOLD and Neversea festivals.

The event is going to happen on 15th – 17th September 2021 in Brno powered by SoundCzech and BACH (Brno Club Association) with a help of Music Managers Forum Czech Republic.

That is the motto of this collaboration.”

On the first day SoundCzech invites local and international professionals to share their view about the recovery of the music sector, boosting regional music scenes as well as talk about digital possibilities, new cultural entrepreneurships and label relations among others.

The second day of the conference will be powered by BACH and will focus on topics around the club scene, local and international networks and tourism relations.

The whole event starts with a highlighted zero day: The regional meeting of Music Managers Forum, co-organized by IMMF (International Music Managers Forum, Music Managers Forum Czech Republic).

Athens Music Week 2021 returns in a hybrid format, with lots of music, innovative web events and a very special live stage!

From the 22nd to the 26th of June 2021, Athens Music Week (AMW) will be back at Technopolis Athens, to offer insights around all facets of the music industry, through selected talks, workshops, seminars, showcases, and a grand live event.

How can Greek musicians make a name for themselves in Greece and abroad? How large is the loyal following of the Greek Hip-hop scene, and what are the latest trends in Greek music? Does gender balance exist in the music industry? What do Spotify, Bandcamp and Clubhouse have in common? How can you build a music career via Tik Tok? What are Copyrights, what are Royalties, how do they work, and what does blockchain technology have to do with them? Is virtual reality the future for concerts? And how does this relate to Fortnite? What is cultural management, and which opportunities can propel Greek artists into the international charts from the comfort of their own couch? Do music and reality tv competitions actually help the artists who participate in them? And how does a professional chef feature into all of this?

This year’s Athens Music Week conference will be focusing on all these topics and more, spanning all facets of the music industry, from recording and live gigs, to copyrights and the future of the music industry, to the current music trends.

Like every year, the AMW Conference will be hosting experienced and acclaimed representatives of the local as well as the international music sector, while market experts and insiders will be sharing essential tips & tricks in workshops, seminars and webinars, specifically designed for artists, students, amateurs and professionals.

At the same time, AMW will be presenting a rich showcase program featuring unique and exciting music from the best up-and-coming artists representing various genres and countries, while offering Greek participants the chance to create their own original audio-visual material, which will be broadcast during the festival.

Finally, subject to health conditions at the time, AMW Main Stage, a grand multifaceted music event, will be coming live on the main stage of Technopolis Athens, always in compliance to public health regulations and protocols.

All ΑΜW events will be free for the public, as a symbolic gesture of support to the music sector which has been hit especially hard by the pandemic worldwide.

Road to international markets: Music PR in Germany Workshop by Sebastian Król

In this last workshop of HEMI Music Awards phase 1, the 27 nominees of CSEE had the chance to find out how the Music PR process works in Germany.  Sebastian Król, co-founder of Backseat music agency and Funklub platform gave to the nominees an overview featuring fields of media, insights of a campaign and tips on how to get in touch with Music PR agencies.

Sebastian Król is 32 years old and lives in Hamburg. After graduating from the university of Lüneburg with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Król started working at the music agency popup-records. Six years later, in 2017, he founded the label and PR agency Backseat – together with his friend and partner Arne Thamer. Early 2021, he started Fanklub, a new platform for bands and fans which will launch in summer. Sebastian is also a musician himself, releasing music under the alias Karwendel, poetic indie folk in German language.

Backseat is a Hamburg-based music agency founded in 2017 by Sebastian Król and Arne Thamer. We develop individual PR campaigns for releases in the fields of indie, folk, pop and rock. We cover all media fields (radio / print / online / TV) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Currently we support the following bands: Ane Brun, Sticky Fingers, AVEC, Kristofer Åström, The Fratellis, Tiger Lou, John Paul White, Meadows, Hudson Taylor, Lauren Ruth Ward and many more.

In addition to PR activities, Backseat is also active as a label itself. Together with Soulfood & Believe Digital as distribution partner we can distribute our releases worldwide. ROBA Musikverlag supports us in publishing. So far the following bands have released their music on Backseat: Carnival Youth, BRTHR, The Bland, DI-RECT, Jonas Alaska, Of The Valley, Albert Luxus, Jo Goes Hunting, Penny Police, Phototaxis, I’m Not a Blonde, Native, Brett Newski, Echo Me, Grapell, Martin Baltser, Cub & Wolf, Big Fox, Native, SPARKLING, The Cool Quest & The Bad Tones.

Backseat is in charge of the music booking for the NORDEN Festival in Schleswig and the PR for the Rock For People Festival in the Czech Republic. Since 2020 Backseat cooperates with the Czech export office SoundCzech to connect the German and Czech music industry.

In 2021, Sebastian Król and Arne Thamer founded the Fanklub Music FKM GmbH, a new platform for bands and fans: fanklub.com

Fanklub is the new platform for bands and fans!
As a band, you can create your own Fanklub page in no time, free of charge and with no programming skills – as website and app. All basic information such as live dates and videos can be found by everyone free of charge. Fans can access exclusive content such as live streams, news, and raffles by joining your Fanklub, which starts at €1.99 per month. As an all-in-one solution, Fanklub combines the functions of a classic band website with the features of crowdfunding models.
