HEMI MUSIC AWARDS 2021 - PHASE 3: WINNERS

The international Jury of 27 members including Industry experts, festival organisers, promoters, export offices, venue managers and music journalists from the 9 countries participating in the Awards: Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia has left the courtroom!

 

After 6 fruitful months of collaboration, meetings and networking sessions, 6 enlightening workshops, 9 amazing showcase events and 49 successful mentoring sessions, the time for the big announcement has come.

A total prize value of € 6,000 per winner will cover the costs for content creation, promo campaigns, participation to selected music conferences, and all expenses for touring to international festivals and showcase events!

Let’ s take a minute to appreciate all the artists and managers, for their commitment, punctuality, and collaborative spirit. We couldn’t have pulled this off without you!

Deaf Radio (GR)

Deaf Radio is a desert/alternative rock band formed in Athens, Greece, in 2015. Their debut album, “Alarm”, was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. As chief proponents of hard rock and grievous genre assault, the band has been hailed as one of the most exciting alt-rock bands to emerge from Greece in recent memory.

I Wear* Experiment (EE)

I Wear* Experiment is a punchy Nordic electropop trio leaning towards experimentation and cinematic soundscapes. The trio creates edgy big banger beats with a touch of Florence and The Machine like graceful vocals. The band has toured Europe & Asia playing club gigs and festivals like Monsoon Festival (Vietnam), Zandari Festa (Korea), Music Matters (Singapore), Positivus Festival (Latvia), Intsikurmu Festival (Estonia).

Koala Voice (SI)

Koala Voice are a Slovenian, indie rock, disco punk band formed in 2010. With their energetic stage performances, they have been, from the very beginning, attracting both younger and older audiences. In 2017 they opened the show for Pixies and happily checked that of their bucket list. The band appeared at several major music festivals such as: Pohoda, Inmusic, Exit, Liverpool Soundcity, Eurosonic and Ment.

HEMI MUSIC AWARDS 2021 - PHASE 2: SELECTION PHASE

We are thrilled to announce the 9 International Finalists for the HEMI Music Awards 2021! These 9 exceptional European artists will now have access to mentoring and training activities targeted towards developing their skills and competencies in communication and revenue streams, with the aim to help propel their international career! Embarking on this promising HEMIsphere adventure, each of the nominees earns a total prize value of € 2,000!  

Along with the training program, the 9 finalists will be performing and presenting a song of their choice during the HMA Live Music Session, an online event that will give the opportunity to both audiences and Jury members to discover them live on stage!

Thom Artway marries a modern sound to classic songwriting. His folk-pop draws you in with a distinctive voice and naggingly melodic earworms. Thom has performed at the legendary Sziget festival in Hungary, and his tour took in Amsterdam, Helsinki, Zurich, Luxembourg and the UK!

I Wear* Experiment is a punchy nordic indie electro trio leaning towards experimentation and cinematic soundscapes. The band began their journey into electronical pop music bringing back the punch and aggressiveness that they feel has gone missing over time.

Deaf Radio is a desert/alternative rock band formed in Athens, Greece, in 2015. After “Alarm” garnered more than one and a half million streams online and sell- out crowds when performed live, the band’s most recent creation, “ Modern Panic”, left no ear unturned with its sprawling and exhilarating style.

Woodstock Barbie infuses vintage blues rock with scratchy stoner and silky soul. Their debut EP Never Gonna Fall in Line came out in October 2019 and they immediately ended up sharing the stage with Dopethrone (CAN). They won the Hungarian Fülesbagoly talent competition’s ‘Best Female Singer’ and ‘Best Musican’ awards.

As a truly outstanding and hardworking band into the European emerging artists pool, Funk Shui (based in North Macedonia) is catching the eyes and ears of many. The band has already been a part of the showcase programs of MENT Ljubljana, Athens Music Week, PIN Music conference.

Izzy and the Black Trees bring female led energy that can be compared to early Blondie, Pj Harvey, Patti Smith band, mixed with fuzz, noisy guitar riffs, post -punk beat, poetic lyrics & feisty melodies. Their live shows are full of punk and rock’n’roll energy!

Lucia’s career got a kickstart in 2012 when her first single “Silence” went viral and made her an overnight success, with 27 million views to date and legions of fans in Turkey, South America and of course her home country of Romania. She performs in a band format, with the bass guitar, drums, keys and occasional cello!

Dogs in Kavala have already gathered a formidable fan base all around Europe! They are currently working on their 3rd album which promises to reach another level in term of production quality. Their shows are characterized by a close dynamic relation with the audience, sing-alongs from the first rows and an obligatory joined bow at the end.

Alfah Femmes is a seven-person band from Gdansk, Poland. Their music takes from new wave, no wave, and cold wave, but also from art-pop, synth-pop, art-punk, post-punk, post-grunge, as well as general indie and classical genres.

Though their music is often tied to traditions of Americana roots music, Holy Motors hail from Tallinn, Estonia, an incongruence that adds to this band’s endless allure. Their critically acclaimed debut album Slow Sundown put them on the map as an unignorable group of post-Soviet cowgirl/boys making music “that sounds like the old American West” (Fader).

KOIKOI is a fresh name from the vibrant and ever-evolving Belgrade (Serbia) music scene that first made the rounds in 2019 with the song on a compilation by Hali Gali, a platform that brings together new generations of musicians and audience, unencumbered by genres and prejudices.

Pantaloons trio is a community of three “clumsy fellows” as they like to call themselves. Luka Belič (saxophone), Aljaž Markežič (sousaphone), and David Nik Lipovac (drums) first emerged as part of the Chilli Brass Band in 2016 where they started experimenting with musical melodies and rhythms in a jam session form.

Whereswilder is a rock quartet hailing from Athens, Greece. Athenian rockers started out in 2014 with their trippy/psychedelic LP, “Yearling”. The record was one of the first European attempts of neo-psychedelic rock music and was critically acclaimed by fans of old-school 60s music.

Zimbru is an indie / art-rock band from Cluj-Napoca, Romania comprised of Teodora Retegan, Paul Bucovesan, Andrei Bobiș and Oana Pop. Their sound can be described as a wild mix of raspy synthesizers, angular guitar riffs, and lively percussion all topped off by stories of dancing, lost pets, real love, and nostalgia for never experienced past decades.

Zulu 3.4 is a contemporary band from Skopje, founded in March 2018 by Damjan Danevsi with the idea to bring together young jazz enthusiasts, whose goal was is create a unique sound through the fusion of different styles and bring new musical experience to the Macedonian stage.

Дeva is a fully DIY solo project by the 21-year-old Budapest-based musician, Dorina Takács. She writes and produces her own tracks, and also sings and designs her artworks. Дeva’s music features are atmospheric smooth sounds, pulsating bass, and polyphonic mantras inspired by magical Hungarian folk songs.
